Section 1 Introduction
The Axis CD-ROM Servers
The AXIS 850, 851, 950 and 951 CD-ROM servers connect CD-
ROM drives to Ethernet or Token Ring networks. All users on the
network can share the information of any CD-ROM inserted into a
connected drive.
The Axis CD-ROM Servers have the following characteristics:
Ease of use:
The CD-ROM server is designed to be as easy as
possible to install and use. It uses NCP, SMB and NFS, so there
is no need to learn to use any special software to access the server.
No disks or tapes are needed to install the server.
Speed:
The throughput is exceeding 500kbytes/s – ample speed
for demanding CD-ROM applications.
Flexibility:
It simultaneously supports Novell NetWare,
Microsoft and IBM Network Operating systems as well as UNIX.
Each CD-ROM Server connects up to seven CD-ROM drives or
jukeboxes, or a CD-ROM tower with up to 7 drives.
Security:
It is possible to restrict the access to any CD-ROM by
listing the users that are allowed to access it or by setting up
password protection. It is also possible to limit the number of
simultaneous users of any CD-ROM to comply with license
agreements.
Network management:
The CD-ROM Server supports the
Simple Network Management Protocol, SNMP. This allows
remote management and trouble-shooting of the server. A
standard SNMP agent resides on the server. It collects network
statistics and error messages to aid in trouble-shooting.
